- The species that transmits Lyme disease in Pennsylvania. Adults are small and reddish-brown with dark legs; nymphs are about the size of a poppy seed and cause most transmission because they're so easily missed.
- American dog tick
- Larger, brown with pale mottled markings on the back. Common in tall grass and along trail edges. Does not transmit Lyme, though it can carry other pathogens.
- Questing
- The behaviour ticks use to find a host: climbing a grass blade or leaf edge and holding out their front legs. Ticks don't jump or drop from trees — they wait at knee height or below on the vegetation edge.

What to expect afterwards
- You will see fleas for up to two weeks after treatment. Pupae are effectively armoured and no product kills them reliably — they hatch into treated carpet and die there.
- Keep vacuuming every day or two for two weeks. It's genuinely part of the treatment, not just tidying.
- Stay off treated yard areas until dry, usually 30–60 minutes.
- Keep checking pets after yard time. No tick treatment eliminates 100% of a population.

Why do I need two flea treatments?
Because of the pupal stage. Flea pupae are protected inside a sticky cocoon that no available product reliably penetrates, and they hatch over roughly two weeks. The second visit at day 14 kills the adults that emerged after the first — that's what actually ends the infestation.
Is yard treatment safe for kids and pets?
Yes, once dry — usually 30 to 60 minutes. We apply at label rate, and we deliberately don't broadcast-spray open lawn, both because it isn't where fleas and ticks live and because it's unnecessary exposure.
Why am I still seeing fleas after treatment?
